Barefoot in the Sun

Barefoot in the Sun is the 3rd book in the Barefoot Bay series from NYT bestselling author Roxanne St. Claire. The publisher is Forever Grand Central Publishing, and the release date is set for April 30, 2013. From the back cover.~
A Barefoot Bay Novel

When running is all you've ever known . . .

Caught between fight and flight, Zoe Tamarin has always picked flight. Since she was rescued from a nightmare childhood by her great-aunt Pasha, they've been on the move, never staying in one place long enough to risk exposing their precarious past. But now that they've reached the sun-baked shores of Barefoot Bay, Zoe may have to stay and fight-for her aunt's life . . . and for a love she ran from years before.

Sometimes the bravest act of all is to stand still.

Oliver Bradbury came to Florida to start over, as both a doctor and a father to his eight-year-old son. He never expected life to hand him a second chance with the woman he lost years ago-but one look at Zoe Tamarin and he knows he'll do whatever it takes to prove that this time, he can be the man she needs. But when demands of family and friendship threaten to shatter their rekindled passion, Oliver must heal Zoe's lifelong wounds with more than hot kisses . . . but will that be enough to keep her from flying off with his heart?

I’ve wanted Zoe’s story since we first met the best friends in Barefoot in the Sand. When I saw Barefoot in the Sun available on NetGalley, I jumped at the chance to read it early. I can’t say thank you enough to the publisher for approving me for an early review copy.

I really have enjoyed all 3 books in this series so far. That being said, Zoe’s is my favorite to date. I’m a huge Roxanne St. Claire fan and probably say each book of hers I read is my favorite, but there really was just something about Zoe and Oliver’s story that made me love it best.

Zoe has never shared with her 3 very best friends in the world that Zoe Tamarin isn’t her real name…nor is her great-aunt Pasha her real aunt. She has only ever opened up and shared that information with one person, namely Oliver Bradbury. When Oliver didn’t immediately agree with her decision to protect Pasha, Zoe disappeared from his life. 9 years later Zoe needs Oliver to help save Pasha’s life, and keep her secret.

Both Zoe and Oliver still love one another all these years later. Oliver is much more open about his feelings, but even if Zoe wouldn’t say it out loud, it was obvious she loved Oliver. Zoe also fell just as hard for Oliver’s 8-year old son, Evan. I loved how Zoe and Evan connected just as much as Oliver and Zoe. Also loved how Evan gave Pasha a bit of happiness as she was suffering from cancer.

As with all read friends, when Zoe finally shares the truth with her 3 best friends, they are all in full support mode. Zoe, Tessa, Jocelyn, and Lacey are so much like my friends and I, and I love watching their friendship grow stronger and stronger with each book.

Zoe and Oliver still have amazing chemistry 9 years later and I loved watching them each fall all over again. Whether they are making love or working to figure out how to save Pasha, Zoe and Oliver are perfect together.

I think I loved Barefoot in the Sun best because it pulled so many emotions out of me while I was reading it. I love a book that makes me feel big emotion and I went from laughing to crying many times while reading this book. Barefoot in the Sun is another winner from Roxanne St. Claire, and I’m already counting down the days until we get Tessa’s book in October.

The thrill of moving up from the minors to the Nashville Assassins was a welcome distraction. But not even becoming the first rookie goalie to tally three shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals alleviates the pain. With the loss of his parents and sister weighing as heavily on his soul as ever, Tate Odder can’t keep pretending he’s okay. That’s when he meets smart, sexy Audrey. Taking Shots

Taking Shots is the 1st book in the Nashville Assassins series from author Toni Aleo. The publisher is Random House - Loveswept and the release date is set for April 23, 2013. From the publisher’s website.~

No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together—if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside throw her insecurities out the window before she misses out on a shot at love.

I’d heard other taking about Toni Aleo’s new series, and was pretty excited to give it a try, especially since it takes place in Nashville where I currently live. I was very lucky to get approved for a review copy thanks to the publisher through NetGalley.

I absolutely loved Taking Shots. I really loved Ellie and totally got her issues with her weight based on her history. Regardless if it is true or not, most women who are a size 10 or larger feel like they are fat even if they are really at a healthy weight. I battle my weight every single day of my life and even have a family member who isn’t nice about anyone who gains weight, so Ellie’s issues with her family really spoke to me. I’m lucky that my family member would never take the steps Ellie’s family did, but felt her pain completely. I was so glad Ellie had her dad and her uncle always in her corner about everything in her life.

I’ll admit I fell very hard for Shea Adler the minute he appeared on the page. I could tell he was gob-smacked when he first saw Ellie and loved that he was willing to do everything in his power to prove to her how much he cared. Not saying he didn’t screw up on occasion, but what romance doesn’t run into some major bumps along the way. However, he proved himself over and over again and I loved how much he loved Ellie. I especially loved that he loved her exactly for who she really was.

I have to say Ellie’s mother and sister are about the biggest villains I’ve ever read in a contemporary romance. I really wished at one point they were real people so I could totally slap each of them across the face. I couldn’t believe anyone could ever be that vindictive and cruel to a family member. I’m so glad Ellie was able to learn the truth about them both so that she could try and work things out with Shea.

I’m lucky enough to already have the 2nd book in the Nashville Assassins series and am already reading Trying to Score. The first 3 books in the series are all set for re-release on April 23, 2103 from Loveswept (books were originally self-pubbed). Taking Shots, Trying to Score, and Empty Net are the first 3 books and are all being released in digital format.

Waking Up to You

Waking Up to You is the newest Harlequin Blaze release from Leslie Kelly. The official print release date is April 23, 2013 and the digital release date is set for May 1, 2013. The May releases from Blaze include a free reader's favorite from the author, and Overexposed is your freebie with Waking Up to You. From the back cover.~

Waking Up to You: A new sizzling Forbidden Fantasy story

Hollywood costume designer Candace Reid would do anything for her gay best friend—even marry him! But before giving up on sex for a while, she needs that last fling. Only, when her injured grandfather asks for her help with his struggling Napa vineyard, her plan for Nooky Time is completely kiboshed….
Then she meets the mouthwateringly hot new groundskeeper, Oliver McKean, and it's a case of instant lust. And damned if Oliver doesn't seem as hungry as she is….

Before long, Candace is gettin' naughty with the hired help. But her secret is bound to come out eventually. And when it does, she'll have to choose between a promise to her dearest friend…and the man whose body she can't live without.

I’m a huge Leslie Kelly fan and was super excited to see she had a new Blaze coming out. I was lucky enough to get a review copy from NetGalley thanks to the publisher.

Waking Up to You is one of my favorite Leslie Kelly books ever. That’s saying a lot since I own every single book she has ever written and have even had to replace a few copies because I’d re-read them so many times.

Candace has agreed to marry her gay best friend, and he even offers to pay for her to go to Paris to hook up to her hearts content, since she will have to go without sex while they are married. The fact that he will give her half his earnings at the end of the marriage is a pretty good deal for her. Of course, once she finds out her grandfather is injured all those plans go right out the window and she heads to Napa to help him out.

Enter Oliver McKean, her grandfather’s groundskeeper. He is oh-so-sexy and Candace can’t get him off her mind. She is instantly attracted to him and the attraction is reciprocated. Candace and Oliver have amazing chemistry throughout the entire book. As with any Leslie Kelly, there are plenty of super sexy scenes and I have to say the “just one kiss” scene was one of the sexiest. However, my most favorite scene in the book is when Candace finds a spider in the kitchen and Oliver must get rid of it. As I have a huge fear of spiders, I totally got her “Green Goblin” description of the spider. Seriously most spiders could totally live in the Forbidden Forest from Harry Potter in my mind.

Oliver and Candace as a couple totally worked for me and I loved how understanding Oliver was when he discovered Candace’s plans to marry her gay best friend, Tommy.

Leslie Kelly gives her reads a funny, sexy, fast-paced story and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book in this series. We met Candace’s twin sister Madison towards the end of this book and I can’t wait to read her story.

You can currently purchase both the print and the digital copy directly from Harlequin. If you want to purchase digital copy directly from Amazon, B&N or other online ebook retailers, they will be available for purchase on May 1, 2013.

Too Hot to Handle

Too Hot to Handle is the 2nd book in the Jackson series from Victoria Dahl. The publisher is Harlequin HQN and the release date was March 26, 2013. From the back cover.~

This good girl's going bad….

Merry Kade has always been the good girl. The best friend. The one who patiently waits for the guy to notice her. Well, no more. Merry has just scored her dream job, and it's time for her life to change. As the new curator of a museum in Wyoming, she'll supervise a lot of restoration work. Luckily she's found the perfect contractor for the job.

Shane Harcourt can't believe that someone wants to turn a beat-up ghost town into a museum attraction. After all, the last thing he needs is the site of his dream ranch turning into a tourist trap. He'll work on the project, if only to hasten its failure…until the beautiful, quirky woman in charge starts to change his mind.

For the first time ever, Merry has a gorgeous stud hot on her heels. But can she trust this strong, silent man, even if he is a force of nature in bed? When Shane's ulterior motives come out, he'll need to prove to Merry that a love like theirs may be too hot to handle, but it's impossible to resist.

I’m a really big fan of Victoria Dahl. I devour her books as soon as they hit my kindle. I was lucky enough to get a review copy of Too Hot to Handle thanks to the publisher through NetGalley.

I loved Merry Kade from the moment we met her. She has been Grace’s best friend forever and anyone who can keep Grace as a best friend has to be pretty special. I loved how protective both Grace and Cole are of Merry. I also loved that we got to see more of Grace and Cole together in this book. I love them as a couple and love how much they love one another.

I really liked the whole idea of restoration of the ghost town. I’m a history geek, so I got just as excited as Merry did about her work. I even liked that Merry was able to get Shane to help her work on the restoration of the town. I really loved the chemistry between Shane and Merry. As with all Victoria Dahl books, readers get lots of super-hot sexy scenes. My only problem with this book was the fact that Shane kept the secret of who he was from Merry even after their relationship moved beyond a working relationship. I really wanted to kick him in the junk multiple times because I knew Merry would be crushed when she found out the truth of who he really was. That being said, I really did love Merry and Shane as a couple and was so glad she was a much bigger person than I would be about the whole situation.

While this isn’t my favorite Victoria Dahl book because of Shane’s lies, I still really enjoyed this book. I’m really hoping the next hero in the Jackson series is Walker. He is one sexy cowboy and I can’t wait to learn more about him. For more information about Victoria Dahl’s books, check out her website.

Dirty Dare: The Rescue

Dirty Dare: The Rescue (Part 1, spin-off to the Dirty/Dare Me series) is the newest release from Julie Leto. From the author’s website.~

OVERVIEW

As a former CIA operative, Sean Devlin has been trained to resist both capture and coercion, but he’s been out of the spy game a long time. When he’s shanghaied to a grimy underground warehouse and forced to endure weeks of relentless torture, he isn’t sure he’ll survive. His captors want the location of his ex-lover, but he refuses to give her up. How can he when the woman is dead–just like he’ll be if he doesn’t figure out a way to
 escape.

Security specialist, Brynn Blake, has no choice but retrieve Sean and spirit him away to a fortified safe house off the coast of Spain. Because Brynn has an unpaid debt to some very important people she has no choice but to risk her and her career for Sean, a man she’s never met. As he recovers from his injuries, she learns that there is more to the man than meets the eye. Not only is he hot, sexy and intriguing, but he possesses knowledge that could destroy her–knowledge he doesn’t even realize he has.

Sean and Brynn find themselves trapped by both desire and the spymasters calling the shots. But when the game takes an expected turn, Brynn is forced to make a choice: trust Sean or pay the ultimate price.

I’m a huge fan of Julie Leto and am so excited she has done a spine-off series with both the Dirty and Dare Me series of characters. Loved that we got to not only see Marisela, but learned more about her boss, Brynn in this book. Brynn is way more kick-ass than I thought she had the ability to be. Loved how protective she was of Sean from the very beginning, and thought their chemistry was strong from the very beginning. I love the suspense of this story as well as the budding romance between Brynn and Sean. While there is really only one true love scene in this book, I loved that it totally lasted over multiple chapters.

I’m already counting down the days until the next installment in this series. Dirty Dare: The Reveal is currently slated for release on July 1, 2013. For more information about the spin-off series or other books from Julie Leto, check out her website.

Love Irresistibly

Love Irresistibly (FBI/U.S. Attorney) is the newest release from Julie James. The publisher is Berkley and the release date was April 2, 2013. From the back cover.~

HE’S USED TO GETTING WHAT HE WANTS…

A former football star and one of Chicago’s top prosecutors, Assistant U.S. Attorney Cade Morgan will do anything to nail a corrupt state senator, which means he needs Brooke Parker’s help. As general counsel for a restaurant company, she can get a bug to the senator’s table at one of her five-star restaurants so the FBI can eavesdrop on him. All Cade has to do is convince Brooke to cooperate—and he’s not afraid to use a little charm, or the power of his office, to do just that.

AND WHAT HE WANTS IS HER

A savvy businesswoman, Brooke knows she needs to play ball with the U.S. Attorney’s office—even if it means working with Cade. No doubt there’s a sizzling attraction beneath all their sarcastic quips, but Brooke is determined to keep things casual. Cade agrees—until a surprising turn of events throws his life into turmoil, and he realizes that he wants more than just a good time from the one woman with whom he could fall terrifyingly, irresistibly in love. . .

I was lucky enough to get a review copy from NetGalley thanks to the publisher. I’m a huge fan of Julie James and was so excited to get the 4th book in the FBI/U.S. Attorney series early. While this is the 4th book in the series, I think it could be read easily as a stand along. However, characters from other books in the series are in this book and I highly recommend reading the series in order.

I had hoped Cade would be the next hero when reading About That Night, and was so glad to see Cade get his own book. I loved Cade and Brooke as a couple. They had great chemistry from the very beginning, and I loved watching them grow together. Both are used to being the one in control, so it was fun to watch them figure out how to be a couple. I liked that we got to visit with some of my favorite characters from the series as well as meet some new characters, who I felt just added to the telling of Cade and Brooke’s story.

Julie James gives her readers another amazing love story with Love Irresistibly, and I am personally already counting down the days until her next book is released (probably next year). For more information about the FBI/U.S. Attorney series or other books from Julie James, check out her website.

The Practice Proposal

The Practice Proposal (Suddenly Smitten #1) is the newest release from Tracy March. The publisher is Entangled: Bliss and the release date was March 11, 2013. From the back cover.~

Liza Sutherland isn’t looking for love. Not from a charity-auction date she didn’t even bid on and especially not with Nationals first baseman Cole Collins, the guy she obsessed over as an awkward teenager. She won’t get involved with a notorious player, no matter how attractive Cole is.

Cole Collins is up for contract renegotiation, but after too many late-night parties, he’ll need some positive publicity before he can make the roster. His agent, Frank, pitches Liza as the perfect prop…only Cole didn’t account for Liza no longer being just a teenager with a crush. She’s gorgeous and smart and he’s instantly hooked.

When Frank makes Liza a deal she can’t refuse—a bet she will fall in love with Cole or a cool half mil goes to charity—the game is on. But neither bet on the real feelings that surface. Could a fake fling turn into an official forever?

I got a review copy from NetGalley thanks to the publisher. The Practice Proposal is the 1st book in the Suddenly Smitten series.

I really enjoyed The Practice Proposal very much. I’m a huge fan of sports romances and add in a friends-to-lovers storyline, and you have me hooked. I fell for Cole pretty quickly. Knew his bad boy image was probably overstated and just knew the real Cole would come out if he met the right woman. When Liza Sutherland entered the picture, I knew Cole had met his match. I loved that his agent, Frank set Cole and Liza up to date temporarily to help Cole secure his next contract with the Nationals. When Cole miss-steps on their first date, Frank makes Liza an offer she can’t refuse. He will give her charity $500,000 if she can date Cole until the end of baseball season without falling in love with him. I have to say I loved that Cole plays for the Nationals and Liza’s parents have ownership in the Orioles.

Cole and Liza had known each other as teenagers and the connection was still there all these years later. Cole had a bit of a challenge with Liza, as her fiancé had passes away 2 years ago, and she was convinced she wasn’t ready for another relationship anytime soon. Cole won me over completely when he was smart enough to look into Liza’s fiancé and let her openly talk about him. Really loved how sweet he was as he helped Liza move on with her life. Cole also needed Liza when he discovered a truth from his past. Cole had never known who his father was, and as a teen, Liza’s parents had always treated him like family. When he graduated from college, he lost contact with her parents and thought it was something he did wrong. Liza is there when he finds out what really went on and help him deal with the truth.

Cole and Liza had amazing chemistry and I loved watching them fall in love. Of course secrets have a way of coming out at the worst time. Both Liza and Cole have to decide if they love one another enough to get past the hurt from the secrets. Luckily they both have family and friends to help talk through so they each can see the truth. I absolutely loved Liza’s best friend Paige, and really hope we get her book in the future.

The Practice Proposal was my first book from Tracy March, but it won’t be my last. I love her writing style and really hope she writes more sports romances in the future. I’m a huge fan of sports, but baseball holds a special place in my heart since I grew up watching games with my mom. For more information about Tracy March, check out her website.

Back on Track

Back on Track by Donna Cummings

A wine tour isn’t enough to take Matt’s mind off his baseball slump—until sexy, funny Allie plops into the adjacent seat and tells him three things about herself. One of them, she says, is a lie. Then Allie lets slip one truth too many…

I fell for Allie and Matt as a couple from the very beginning. They had great chemistry together and just fit for me. Cracked me up that she kept pretending she had no idea who Matt was through much of the story. Loved how jealous Matt acted as she talked about her dates with the “fake” Matt. It was so cute!!! While I enjoyed all the stories in the Strangers on a Train book, this one was one of my favorites. This was the first story I’ve read from Donna Cummings, but won’t be the last!

The Seduction

The Seduction (Volume #2) of The Marriage Diaries Series is the newest release from USA Today Bestselling author Janelle Denison. The official release date was March 28, 2013.

USA Today Bestselling Author Janelle Denison turns up the heat in THE MARRIAGE DIARIES, an erotic series about a married couple who take intimacy and passion to the extreme.

This short novelette of 14,000 words contains three short erotic interludes between married couple Dean and Jillian Noble. WARNING: Contains explicit sexual content and is recommended for mature readers who enjoy erotic situations, as well as graphic language and imagery.

THE MARRIAGE DIARIES Series
The Awakening (Volume #1)
The Seduction (Volume #2)
The Taking (Volume #3 – Coming Soon)

Please join me on my interactive Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/themarriagediaries

I loved meeting Jillian and Dean Nobel in The Awakening (Volume #1) of The Marriage Diaries Series. I loved watching a couple who have been happily married for 19 years start to explore their sexual fantasies together. Jillian totally surprises Dean by showing him she wants to spice up their love life and I loved watching them grow as a couple.

The Seduction (Volume #2) is even hotter and sexier than The Awakening. Dean takes the controls in The Seduction and Jillian is more than happy to give the controls to him. I love the level of trust they have for one another and knew that at any point Jillian could safe out of the situation if she wanted to do so. Loved even more how turned on she got from each fantasy Dean presented. With each volume of this series, the love scenes just keep getting hotter and hotter. I love reading about a couple who have been married long-term want to spice up their love life. While each of the three scenes are super sexy, my favorite was the final one. OMG was it hot! I can’t wait to see what happens with Dean and Jillian once they have their new playroom.

I’ve been a fan of Janelle Denison for years and always knew she wrote super sexy stories. With The Marriage Diaries Series, I think she has found her true voice and I look forward to many more books like this series in the future.

Ticket Home and Thank You for Riding

Ticket Home by Serena Bell
Encountering her workaholic ex on her commuter train is the surprise of Amy’s life. Especially since Jeff seems hell-bent on winning her back.

Serena Bell gives her readers a sweet romance between Amy and Jeff. Jeff comes to bring Amy back home with him. Amy still loves Jeff with all her heart, but doesn’t love that he puts his business interest above her. There was really great chemistry between Amy and Jeff in this short story, and I really enjoyed their story a great deal.

Thank You for Riding by Meg Maguire
At the end of Caitlin’s commute, her extended flirtation with a handsome stranger finds them facing a frigid winter night locked in an unheated subway station.

Caitlin and Mark’s story was so sweet. They had first seen each other at a blood drive but didn’t do more than flirt at that time. After Caitlin leaves her company Christmas party, where her boyfriend breaks up with her, she runs into Mark on the train. Their flirtation continues and they soon must get even closer when they are locked in an unheated subway station for the night. I liked seeing their flirtation move into the physical and looked like they were on their way to a great romance.
